Yoga Body Types – Lean Body Type
Lean Body Type
[Equivalent: Vata; Ectomorph]
Physique: Tendency to be slender, possibly with a fragile appearance. Lean, long muscles.
Energy Level: Energy comes in bursts, followed by a period of low energy.
Appetite: Can have a small appetite to feed their slight frame. Tendency to eat irregularly.
Weight / Shape Issue: Have a fast metabolism leading to minimal fat being stored on the body. There may be a tendency to be underweight. This body type can also accumulate fatty deposits on the body, for instance, through nervous eating. Young people with this body type can lose weight quickly and easily when they set their minds to it. Achieving and maintaining muscular tone is generally the more challenging issue for this body type,
Yoga Recommendation: This body type calls for more gentle or low-impact exercise than the other body types, with the focus on body toning and strength-building to help support their fragile frame. This also helps prevent loose, sagging flesh with progressively bonier appearance later in life. The body toning exercises are beneficial in support of this. Also all Vinyasa can be beneficial.
A generally helpful factor for this body type is regularity: of eating, exercise, sleep and of lifestyle in general. This helps to develop a constant energy level.
